WHEREAS, the City of Portland is committed to recognizing and preserving the history, culture, and identity of its neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, the Brooklyn neighborhood of Southeast Portland has long served as a vibrant community with deep historical roots, civic pride, and strong community involvement; and WHEREAS, the bridge structure located between SE 17th Avenue and SE 26th Avenue spanning SE Holgate Boulevard serves as an important connector for residents, businesses, and visitors traveling within and through the Brooklyn neighborhood; and WHEREAS, naming public infrastructure after neighborhoods strengthens the sense of place, community identity, and shared history; and WHEREAS, community members have expressed support for naming this bridge in recognition of the Brooklyn neighborhood, highlighting its role as a landmark and symbol of community connection. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City hereby officially names the bridge located between SE 17th Avenue and SE 26th Avenue over SE Holgate Boulevard the "Brooklyn Bridge"; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Administrator is directed to authorize appropriate signage or plaques, maps, and City records to reflects the bridge's official name; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Administrator, through the Portland Bureau of Transportation, shall work with the Brooklyn Action Corps and local stakeholders to celebrate the designation.
