As Mayor and Commissioner of Finance & Administration, I request Council confirmation of the following appointments to the Design Commission. Candidate Membership Category 2nd Full Term Zari Santner Regional Arts & Culture Council May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2026 Commissioner Santner’s continuation for a second term with the Design Commission comes at a critical time given her expertise in landscape design and planning of public spaces and review of future public art with the Regional Arts and Culture Council. Zari’s training in landscape architecture and urban design, combined with many decades of experience in design, planning, and administration in private and public sectors, are the critical skills and invaluable knowledge needed to be an effective member of the Design Commission. As a Senior Manager and Director with Portland Parks and Recreation, Zari collaborated with colleagues from other development bureaus on developing policies and establishing standards for planning and design of areas such as the Pearl District, the South Waterfront and the Lents Urban Renewal areas. Many of these collaborations included the involvement of property owners and, in some cases, developers and entailed extensive give and take to accomplish the desired outcome for the public good and the private interests. Zari being able to serve a second term would help us continue to elevate the design and landscaping of our public spaces and public art in Portland.
