Purpose & background

At the request of the Bureau of Transportation, a review of the City Traffic Engineer classification was conducted. The salary grade of the classification was found to be below that of classifications within the City performing comparable work and an adjustment will be implemented for internal equity.

Financial impacts

There is no immediate fiscal impact. The annual maximum rate for the City Traffic Engineer classification is currently $189,113.60. This ordinance will raise the annual maximum rate to $220,958.40, an increase of $31,844.80. The City Traffic Engineer is a single incumbent classification.

Community impacts

This action is largely internal to City government processes.

The City of Portland ordains: Section 1. The Council finds: In accordance with the policies established by the City Council and based on a classification and compensation review, the Bureau of Human Resources is changing the salary grade of the City Traffic Engineer, effective 30 days after Council approval. NOW, THEREFORE, the Council directs: The following compensation rates are changed, effective 30 days after Council approval: Job # Job Class Grade 30003049 City Traffic Engineer from 61 to 62
